The DO is located directly to the west of Rueda, and Toro itself is about 40 kilometres east of Portugal, along the Duero river. On the whole this is red wine country, and the most widely planted grape variety is the Tinto de Toro (like a lot of other areas, this is a synonym of Tempranillo).
